WALK ORGANISATION General Matters Walks with the Walbottle Ramblers take place on a Sunday once every two weeks, and transport is always by members own cars. Members wishing to go on a walk meet at the regular meeting place at 9.30am. We leave for the start of the walk no later than 9.45am. We do not wait past this time. For members not having cars lifts can be arranged from the meeting point. Non-members wishing to join us for a walk can do so. Two walks can be undertaken before it becomes necessary to join the organisation. The walks are always circular, and usually take place in Northumberland. There are occasional excursions into North Durham, and Cumbria. Such excursions are usually in the summer, when we have the benefit of long days The walks are always led and devised by the two leaders. There is no obligation for individual members to lead walks. Walbottle Ramblers do not have a regular schedule of walks as with some walking clubs. Each walk is devised for the day, and although an individual walk may have been done before the leaders try to ensure that several years will have elapsed between the two events. During a walk there will be one extended stop for lunch. Walkers are therefore recommended to provide a packed lunch and a hot drink. They should also provide a drink for consumption during the walk. This is particularly important during hot weather A Walk Calendar is issued at the beginning of the year. Unless something dramatic happens walks will take place on the calendar dates. Walks always commence at a car park, because of the number of cars involved. This will mean that on occasion there will be car parking charges to pay by the individual members. Participation in a walk does not have to be booked in advance. Members simply turn up on the appointed day at the appointed time at the appointed place. Equally it is not necessary to tell the organisers that you will not be coming on a walk. With petrol being at such a high price it seems to be only fair that passengers and car owners/drivers come to some amicable agreement over cost sharing. Walbottle Ramblers do not attempt to impose any figure on its members but leave it to their good sense. Walbottle Ramblers have policies on some matters:
RESPONSIBILITY
Walkers take part in the walks entirely at their own risk.
It is
understood that many of the walks contain hazards,
rough country, loose farm animals such as cows, occasionally bulls, horses, and dogs, stiles and narrow footbridges. It is the responsibility of the individual to be aware of these potential hazards and negotiate them in a safe manner. DOGS No dogs are allowed on the walks CHILDREN Children under 16 years of age are not encouraged. If a child does attend then it is entirely the responsibility of the parent(s) to ensure the child is properly supervised and adequately clothed FITNESS Members must be capable of walking 8 to 10 miles over rough country at a reasonable pace. This means that a good level of fitness is required. Provided the member complies with this requirement there is no upper age limit SMOKING The Walbottle Ramblers operates a No Smoking policy WEATHER Should a walk encounter inclement weather then it is at the discretion of the Leaders to take appropriate action. COPIES OF WALKS Copies of walks are available to members on request. More recent walks can be available in a 1:50,000 Memory Map format which can be very convenient
